LGBT+ Phoenix Support

Two years ago, 2014 a group of students approached the West Lothian College Students Association and requested that we support them to establish their very own LGBT+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender+) Group. The Student Association liaised with Stonewall and LGBT Youth Scotland to coordinate a meeting. This led to a small group being founded within the College for LGBT+ Students. The Student Association assisted with the Marketing and promotion of the group, whilst the students led and developed it.

LGBT A-Z+ Group is now an established part of Student life. There are currently 33 members and the group is growing at a steady pace. This is a student run support group which wants to provide a safe space for LGBT+ and all students to meet, socialise and discuss matters of interest.

Meetings are held every alternative week on a Wednesday (times alternate from 12-1 one week, then the following fortnight is 4-5pm, so all students can access the club)

The meetings consist of workshops, sexual health advice, socialising with like-minded people, organisation of events and other LGBT+ activities.

If you would like to come along and meet people in the community or are questioning your own sexuality or gender and would like to talk to people who may have experienced the same feelings you are having, please feel free to come along. We are here to help and listen no matter what your situation is. Our aim is to bring our community together.

No need to book, just turn up or pop into the meeting.   Locations of these meetings can change so please email StudentAssociation@west-lothian.ac.uk to confirm location and time of meetings.

 Group Leaders 2017-18

“As lead volunteer of Phoenix Support Group, the group and we wanted to ensure that there is a safe space within the College where people in the LGBT+ community can go and meet others and feel comfortable to talk about their feelings and experiences. We  would also like to put workshops in place to talk about the community and the issues people in the LGBT+ community have experienced in the past. We will welcome any student within West Lothian College so feel free to come along.”
